Head weight approximately 700 g, face width 90 mm, overall length 450 mm. The thin blade and straight edge of this axe make it perfect for trimming and for shaping dry wood. The inside curve of the head allows the axe to be gripped close to the head for precision work. The Gränsfors Carpenter’s Axe has a long, thin and straight edge with a straight bevel face and a narrower poll, giving an even cutting surface for great carving. The forged inward curve from the heel to the lip of the head allows your hand to grip almost straight above the centre of the cutting edge, which is important when your work requires stability and precision. The handle is straight to suit all grips. Its flat, straight shape makes this axe suitable for work in dry wood.

He and an axe collector, Lawrence Lyford, put in a lot of effort to help us build the right model. The head weighs 3.3 lb and the face of the bit is 4 1/2”. The axe has an American hickory handle, 31” or 35”. It comes with a grain-leather sheath .

Gränsfors Bruks Splitting Maul, Head weight approximately 2500 g, face width 65 mm, overall length 800 mm.The Gränsfors Splitting Maul can be used for splitting very thick and knotty chunks of wood. It is forged and ground to a concave, quite thin blade at the bit. The axe cuts quickly and easily into the wood and then effectively splits it as the broader section pushes apart the wood. Its weight and sturdy poll with bevelled corners make the maul perfect for striking a wedge. Otherwise, the design is similar to the Larger Splitting Axe, but with a slightly longer poll. The handle has a protective steel collar below the axe head and circular grooves towards the end for an extra firm grip. The Splitting Maul is the heaviest axe produced by Gränsfors Bruk.

A new baby from Gränsfors! Using the head of the 415 Wildlife Hatchet, but a much shorter handle, those clever smiths at Gränsfors have created an excellent working axe. ‘Kubben’ translates as ‘bowler’, suggesting its use for making bowls. We’d like to know what you use it for! Comes to you sharp, with a protective leather sheath, and a copy of the book of axes.

Mini Axe / Small Hatchet Gränsfors Bruks with Head weight approximately 200 g, face width 60 mm, overall length 260 mm.The Gränsfors Small Hatchet is the lightest of all the axes from Gränsfors Bruk, making it perfect for hiking, when every kilo counts. The axe is excellent for limbing and splitting firewood, despite its diminutive size. The Small Hatchet was developed by Lennart Pettersson (LP), axe smith, knife smith and keen angler, who was looking to create a very light axe that still retained that axe feel. The slightly rounded poll functions like a ‘priest’ (used to hit fish over the head).

You do not have to be a member of the Swedish axe throwing society (Svenska Yxkastareförbundet, Sunnanåvägen 42, 820 23 Bergvik, Sweden) to indulge in this traditional Scandinavian sport. However, you should have a private throwing range with sufficient space (at least 12 m).
