Teapot Stand

Ø 150 x 18 mm.

The Japanese city of Mizusawa has been a center for making cast iron household items for over 900 years. Intended for everyday use as well as use in tea ceremonies and Zen-Buddhist rituals, the design of these objects has changed little over the years. Made in the renowned Oigen foundry, these objects are produced using the traditional method of casting liquid iron in sand. The elegant, thin walled forms are then hand finished using special dressing tools to give them their distinguished appearance. A jet black patina (Ohaguro Shiro) is then applied to the surfaces which are subsequently varnished with Urushi to further accentuate the subtle features of their surfaces.
