This type of axe is a combination of a mortise axe and a mortise chisel. It has been used by carpenters for centuries and served as the trade´s symbol during the Middle Ages. The head has a square cross section, with a horizontal cutting edge on one end and a vertical cutting edge on the other. The tool is held near the socket during use. Supplied with handle unattached.
