Milled, perfectly flat steel plate for lapping the backs of chisels and plane blades. Prior to use, the plate should be mounted on a wooden base. To flatten the back of a blade, use a piece of wood to press down on the blade while rubbing it across the surface of the plate. Normally used in conjunction with silicon carbide powder and water. |
