Kobayashi Knives Over the course of human history, an undeniable mystique has always been attached to the art of hand-forging knives. This mystique has driven blacksmiths to produce knives whose quality far surpasses any functional requirements. This ritualized drive for perfection is characterised by Samurai swordsmiths and a few, elite knifesmiths in Japan. There is no doubt that Kobayashi sensei, purveyor to the Imperial Court, belongs to this rare species of craftsmen. His Hocho are works of art, forged by hand using the finest materials. The fine, wavelike pattern of the multi-layered steel gives these knives their impressive appearance and serves as a perfect complement to the breathtaking sharpness of the cutting edge. The blade is set in a polished buffalo horn ferrule and Makassar ebony handle, which further accentuates the beauty of the steel. All blades have a single, right bevel and are individually signed. |
