During the 17th century, European settlers often brought tomahawk-like axes with them on their journeys through the Americas to barter for local products. Generally known as "trade axes", these tools were very popular among Native Americans due to their versatility and practical size, making them well-suited for building shelters, carving and slaughtering animals. The wedge fit of the hickory handle and axe head is easily reversible and allows the axe to be quickly taken apart for transport or sharpening. This axe is based on a French design and completely hand-crafted at the Gränsfors forge. The elegant axe head is forged from a single piece of steel. The trade axe is perfect for any fine woodworking task due to its incredible lightweight, well-balanced heft and razor sharp edge. Comes with leather sheath.
