Many tool and knife sharpeners believe the Belgian stones to be the quintessential finishing stones. Geologically speaking they are breccias, conglomerates formed of very uniform, angular garnet abrasive particles. Because Belgian stones have been highly sought after for hundreds of years, the supply remaining in the existing quarries is more or less exhausted. The remaining stones are cut from thin strata of rock, but are still of the same high quality. The stones come glued to a slate base for added support. Used with water. Approx. Grit of 6000 - 8000. Sizes may vary. These are the largest, highest-quality Belgium stones currently available.
