Knife-shaped, flat back;

double bevel, flat back;
skew bevel, rounded back.

Natural Arkansas stones are dense, fine-grained finishing stones (novaculite) usually used with an oil lubricant. Due to their high degree of hardness and stable bond, Arkansas stones are particularly well-suited for polishing curved cutting edges. They cut considerably slower than Japanese waterstones of similar grits but are hardly subject to wear.
The stones we offer have a uniform structure and are crack-free. They originate from quarries in the Ouachita mountains that unfortunately are almost completely depleted.
