Bark-Tanned Swedish Leather, Thickness ca. 2 mm, 12 x 25 cm

Jan Sandlund´s tannery, the official supplier of the Swedish royal court, makes this fine leather using a technique that is many centuries old. The time intensive process involves tanning the leather in bark extracts and then air drying it. The so-called "Raurandleder" has a beautiful natural patina that continues to improve with age. It is easy to shape when wet, but is very hard and wear resistant once dried. In addition, it will not corrode steel and is hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin. A truly unique natural product, ideal for making knife sheaths and other shaped leather objects such as cases and masks.
